Martha-Maria Mitu is a Romanian composer and violinist performer/improviser based in London, with Master’s degrees from conservatoires in Switzerland and the UK. Since 2022, she has regularly performed with ensembles such as the BBC Concert Orchestra, Manchester Collective, and O/Modernt, with whom she has appeared at major venues including the Southbank Centre, Wigmore Hall, the Barbican, the Royal Opera House Mumbai, and the Romanian Athenaeum. Her interdisciplinary approach as both composer and performer is boundary-free, often spanning dance, theatre, and visual art. Since 2024, she has been an Improviser-in-Residence at London’s AA School, and she was a 2024–2025 Southbank Centre Future Artist.

Her compositions have been performed by ensembles and artists including the Riot Ensemble, Brett Dean, and the New London Chamber Choir. Most recently, she premiered two new works at the Folkestone New Music Festival, performed by pianist Joseph Havlat and mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean.

Martha-Maria is currently completing a funded Master’s in Composition at the Royal Academy of Music in London, studying with Louise Drewett and Hans Abrahamsen. Upcoming performances include the Chroma Ensemble, Pallant House Gallery, and scoring a film, as well as a commission from the International Guitar Foundation & Festivals.

Venturing into visual art, her paintings were exhibited during Patricia Kopatchinskaja’s Pierrot Lunaire at the Southbank Centre.
